Big Trucks, Smart Cars, and
Motorcycles
We have a tendency in this country to think that
big cars are cool, tough, and macho, while small cars
are nerdy, weak, and wimpy. We need to re-think the way
we view modes of transportation. I remember someone told
me that the Smart Car looks like those little "clown
cars" from the circus. He hurt my feelings because I
love the Smart Car and it has the potential to save
mankind billions of barrels of oil. Then I got to
thinking and I said, hey wait a minute. A motorcycle is
even smaller than a Smart Car, yet they are considered
even cooler and more macho than the biggest Heavy Duty
pickup truck. Well, the Smart Car is only a little bit
bigger than a motorcycle. In fact, it's like a
motorcycle for two and with a lot more carrying space.
Then people worry about the safety of a Smart Car, but
all you have to do is compare it again to a motorcycle.
A Smart Car with it's advanced frame design is many
times safer than a motorcycle, but yet people seem to be
more afraid of driving a Smart Car, when in reality it
can be safer than even full sized vehicles. (continued
